Description
Pair of Salon Sideboards in the Transition Style – François Daide, Paris, Mid-20th Century
This refined pair of salon sideboards was created by the renowned Parisian furniture manufacturer François Daide and reflects the elegance of the French Transition style – the artistic shift between Rococo and Neoclassicism. Inspired by a model of the celebrated royal cabinetmaker Jean Henri Riesener, these pieces pay tribute to the pinnacle of French decorative arts.
The solid hardwood carcasses are beautifully veneered in palisander and rosewood. Exquisite marquetry, crafted from various fine and partially dyed woods, features floral motifs, decorative vases, ribbons, swags and quivers – a testament to outstanding craftsmanship. Finely chased, matt-gilded bronze mounts enrich the luxurious appearance.
Each sideboard is crowned with a profiled marble top, adding a stately finishing touch. The “FD” stamp on the back upright confirms their origin from the prestigious Daide family firm, originally founded in 1742 in Revel and later established as a highly respected Parisian furniture house.
A magnificent and well-preserved ensemble with strong decorative presence – ideal for classic interiors or as a striking highlight in contemporary spaces.
