Escalier de Cristal (1802-1923) was founded by Marie-Jeanne-Rosalie Desarnaud (1775-1842) and had its first shop in the Palais Royal in Paris. The company produced various decorative objects of the highest quality. Initially in rock crystal, glass and bronze, later also veneered furniture. The range was supplemented by bought-in objects, all of which came from artists of the time. Escalier de Cristal was considered the most elegant furniture store in Paris in the first half of the 19th century. Its customers included Napoleon I, Napoleon III and King Louis Philippe.
