Description
Elegant so-called Sauteuse by the Parisian ébéniste Jean Popsel (master since 1755), created around 1770 during the Transition period between Louis XV and Louis XVI. The oak corpus is finely veneered with rosewood and amaranth, and features geometric marquetry made of various precious woods. Crafted using traditional techniques, polished, and fitted with three drawers. The gilt bronze mounts are likely of later date, while the profiled marble top completes the refined design. With stamped mark “J. POPSEL” and master’s mark, in beautifully restored condition.
