Description

A fine Transitional period commode by the Parisian ébéniste François Reizell, maître in 1764. The oak carcass is veneered in amaranth and rosewood, richly inlaid with geometric marquetry in various exotic woods, and finished with a traditional French polish. The front features two drawers sans traverse, mounted with gilt-bronze ormolu mounts, and surmounted by a moulded Campan Rubané marble top.

François Reizell, maître ébéniste in 1764, employed the later famous Josef Baumhauer as a journeyman. Among his distinguished patrons was the Prince de Condé of the Bourbon family.
