Description
Elegant French salon commode in the Louis XVI style, crafted by the renowned ébéniste E. Brunet in the last quarter of the 19th century. The carcass is made of oak, veneered in mahogany, and richly decorated with high-quality marquetry in various precious woods. The surface is traditionally finished: polished by hand with the recessed areas left matte, a hallmark of fine French cabinetmaking.
The commode features two drawers “sans traverse” (without a separating rail), finely chased and gilded bronze mounts, and a profiled marble top that completes the refined appearance. The lock bears the imprint “E. BRUNET PARIS.”
Measuring 93 × 94 × 51.5 cm, the piece is presented in beautifully and professionally restored condition.
E. Brunet came from a dynasty of cabinetmakers and worked closely with Frédéric Roux, with whom he won a gold medal at the Exposition Universelle of 1889. He was especially known for his high-quality reproductions of museum furniture, primarily in the Louis XVI style.
